Stephen DeBerry, Founder and Managing Partner

Stephen DeBerry runs the Bronze Venture Fund, where he makes and manages innovative investments that align strong financial returns with positive social impact. He is the founder of Bronze Investments and a former partner at Kapor Capital, Investment Director at Omidyar Network. In 2009 Stephen was elected as a Trustee and Member of the Investment Committee stewarding $4 billion at The California Endowment. Stephen also chaired the investment committee for the national board of directors at Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Bronze's Eastside investment thesis focuses on leveraging commercial capital to drive positive outcomes for everyone, especially people and communities on the social, economic, and environmental margin. Stephen’s Eastside TED talk has been viewed more than 1.6 million times.

Stephen is a 20+ year Silicon Valley veteran who earned his stripes as an entrepreneur and investing in over 80 companies. He has also managed limited partner positions in over 20 top performing venture, hedge and real estate funds. Stephen earned a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology with highest honors from UCLA as well as Master’s in Social Anthropology and MBA degrees from The University of Oxford. He is a British Marshall Scholar and Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute who Ebony Magazine and The Root/Washington Post named one of the 100 most powerful African-Americans in the United States. He was also named to the 2018 Yerba Buena 100 list for his work at the intersection of art, community and business. Stephen is currently Architect in Residence at the Hiphop Archive at the Hutchins Center for African and African American Studies at Harvard University.

In addition to his life as an investor Stephen is a proud father of two girls and an elite athlete. He is a former USA national track and field champion (400 meter hurdles). In 2013 he was a member of Expedition Denali, the first African-American mountaineering team to ascend Denali, the highest mountain in North America. The film An American Ascent chronicles that expedition and the effort to bring more diversity to the outdoor community while driving awareness of climate change throughout our society. He lives in the San Francisco bay area with his wife and two daughters.
